Pune Police Bust International Drug Ring Using Cryptocurrency and Dark Web
Pune police have dismantled a sophisticated international drug trafficking network, arresting five individuals and seizing narcotics worth Rs 3.45 crore. The operation, spanning a month, revealed ties to Thailand and Bhutan, with cryptocurrency and the dark web facilitating transactions.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Somay Munde led the investigation, uncovering a smuggling pipeline that imported drugs from Thailand and Bhutan into India. The seized contraband included mephedrone, opium, OG-Kush hydroponic weed, and LSD strips. The network utilized courier services to transport drugs from Assam to Pune.
The arrests highlight the growing intersection of organized crime and decentralized technologies. While cryptocurrencies weren't named, the case underscores the need for blockchain analytics in law enforcement. Authorities continue investigating five additional suspects, including foreign nationals.
